Mercury Retrograde – Reset Your Mind, Body, And Soul

Listen, Mercury is in retrograde for the second time this year, until June 3rd. If you don’t know what this means, let me fill you in. The term retrograde comes from the Latin word retrogradus, which means “backward step.” So basically, because Mercury orbits the sun faster than Earth, it appears to be moving backwards. This is an optical illusion and usually happens 3 or 4 times a year.

Why do people freak out when they hear Mercury is going to be retrograde?

Astrologers believe that the planets and stars affect happenings on Earth. They also say that each planet rules different aspects of life. Mercury is the planet of communication, information, logic and transportation. You may have heard people say their electronics went haywire or they experience feelings of confusion or forgetfulness. On the other spectrum, some people feel super energetic and creative.

And guys, I’ve been reading that this particular retrograde is in the sign of Gemini which happens to be ruled by Mercury.

What to expect :

~Friction in relationships

~Miscommunications

~Scrambled thoughts

~Feeling lethargic and confused

I think it’s safe to say that if you can lay low during this time, please do!

How to Navigate :

~Slow down

~Don’t speak/send/sing anything important without checking it over 3 times

~Try to hold off on making crucial decisions

~Tend to your mental health

~Be aware of any emotions that come up and sit with them

~Try to keep a sense of humour through the chaos

~Use this time to observe how you handle tough situations

Ok, enough about Mercury! Let’s get into the juicy stuff.

How can we allow ourselves to reset and start anew?

Well my friends, I just might be able to help you with that 💫

Number One: Clean out your closet

Start by sifting through your clothing and picking out the things that you never wear. (DON’T WORRY…they will find a new home! just not yours) Then, once you have your pile of clothes that you have already committed to letting go of, start going through the rest and pick out the ones that you want to keep. Now, this part is crucial. If you don’t know about Marie Kondo, I’ll put a link below to her website. She is famous for her organizing skills. She suggests picking each item up one at a time, and quietly asking yourself “Does this spark joy?” Pay attention to how your body responds.

Through this process of only selecting those things that inspire joy, you can figure out what exactly it is that you love and what you need. Another tip; you can use her method on pretty much every aspect of your reset process if you have an open mind.

The goal here is to declutter your space to allow more energy to flow. Also, I don’t know about you but when my home is less cluttered so is my brain.

Now, your closet is bound to hold some sentimental items that just might bring up some emotions from the past (ie. letters, pictures, clothing from an ex-lover or friend). And amid Mercury in retrograde…well you know the spiel. Allow the emotions to come up. Just do it. Get those tears out. It’s very healing for you to cry. Researchers have established that crying releases oxytocin and endorphins. Release any emotions that you have been holding inside for so long. Let it hurt and then let it go. Hold yourself in the moment and remember it’s going to be ok! You will always be ok loves.

Number two: Deep Cleaning

Take some time to get down and dirty. Now that you have purged old useless items from your closet, you can start going deeper. This is when you can tend to things like dusting, cleaning and disinfecting the cupboards, clearing out the fridge, getting rid of things that are expired (like your old sauces and dips), putting a new fridge baking soda box in there, do a deep clean in the bathroom. Don’t forget behind the toilet and under the sink. And last but not least clean out your devices of old photos, text messages, emails and so on. Just get rid of all of the stuff that is lingering in all of your spaces and allow new beautiful loving energy in!

Number three: Self Reflect

First things first. Give yourself credit for doing the work. You’re here. You’re growing and learning every day. Celebrate how far you’ve come and have fun with this!

Ask yourself some questions and be honest but loving. Are you happy with where you are in life? Is there anything you want to change? Are you settling? What are you passionate about and what’re you doing to capitalize on that? Are holding on to something you need to let go of? If today was the last day of your life, would you have the same plans?

Again, be gentle with yourself through the process of self-reflection. It’s a-okay to cry as we have established now.

Number four: Self-care/love

You’ve come this far and from the bottom of my heart, thank you for that! Now, this is in my opinion the most important part. Because without loving and caring for ourselves quite frankly, we wouldn’t be here right?

In today’s world, there is a slew of different things that you can do to relax and pamper yourself. But I like to keep it simple. I suggest running a nice bath at the temperature that you desire. If you love bath bombs from Lush, pop one in. If you’re a basic b!t$@ like me, throw in some Epsom salts (lol). I like to put some spa music or healing frequencies on my speaker while I relax. Light a candle if it’s safe to do so. And if you love crystals place your favourites beside your candle.

It doesn’t stop there! You’ve done the work. Just celebrate that and do what you can to show yourself, love. If you have the means, go get that mani/pedi that you’ve been wanting to get for ages but didn’t think you “needed” it. Book a massage or facial. Take yourself on a date and order your favourite meal/drink.

The world has become a pretty crazy place over the past few years and it’s easy to forget what’s important. Always remember, you are worth it. You are enough. And you deserve to be happy now!

I love you all 🌸
